April 2 – May 2, 1999

by Anton Chekhov
Adapted by Russ Banham and Jennifer Sue Johnson | Directed by Russ Banham

Anton, Chekov, known chiefly in the West as a dramatist, also was a prolific short story writer. Over the course of his short life, cut down at age 44 by tuberculosis, Chekhov wrote some 600 short stories. Romance with Double Bass includes Romance with Double Bass, as early Chekhovian farce, and three more mature works, The GrasshopperAnyuta and The Chorus Girl. All are linked thematically by their dead-on depiction of male-female relationships, from the romantic and illicit to the utilitarian.
