Through the course of a single day, Breathing Lessons, tells the story of the 28-year-old marriage of Ira Moran, a quiet contemplative husband, and his wife, Maggie, a sweet, well-intentioned, and incorrigible meddler. Although the subject matter is familiar, even prosaic, Tyler’s evocative prose imbues her “ordinary” characters with a richness and complexity that reveals their lives to be truly extraordinary.
