Jane Eyre
Fall, 1999
by Charlotte Brontë
Adapted and Directed by Julie Beckman
Jane Eyre is part Gothic Mystery and part love story, but more centrally it is a journey of self discovery. Jane goes through a series of trials: From the emotional abuse of her malicious Aunt Reed, to the hardships of Lowood Institution, Mr Rochester’s tests of her love and her character, and her dark night of the soul when she struggles on the street penniless and alone. Through it all, Jane maintains her integrity and her inner strength, and her final reward is a meeting of mind and heart with her “dear Edward.”
