Nicholson Baker’s Subsoil, first appeared in The New Yorker Magazine on June 27, 1994.  The surreal short story follows Nyle T. Milner, a hard working agricultural historian, who has an unfortunate encounter with a potato. R. Chetwynd-Hayes is one of the country’s most prolific writers of ghost and horror stories. The Elemental, explores what happens when an elemental attaches itself to the shoulder of a dishonest business man and becomes a violent element in his life.
