Book-It is Back! One Show at a Time
“Seattle misses Book-It. Everywhere I go I hear it: Seattle misses Book-It” – Jeff Hermann, Managing Director of Seattle Repertory Theatre.
Welcome to the newly-revisioned Book-It Repertory Theatre. The company that pioneered a unique style of bringing works of literature to the stage is returning, with a fresh new commitment to transforming great literature into great theatre through simple and sensitive production, and inspiring its audiences to read.
Jane Jones and Myra Platt, the founding Co-Artistic Directors of the company for 30+ years, are returning to serve as Artistic Directors once again. It was under Jane and Myra’s leadership that Book-It produced over 120 world premieres — literary classics as well as contemporary works including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Slaughterhouse Five, Howl’s Moving Castle, Sweet Thursday, If I Die in a Combat Zone, The Highest Tide, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Uncensored), The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay, The House of the Sprits and Snow Falling on Cedars. Read a statement from Jane and Myra here.
Book-It will dedicate itself to producing one show at a time, bringing its signature style and high production standards to a single mainstage production in Seattle each year. The company will both reach into its back catalogue of locally-adapted scripts and commission new adaptations of classic and contemporary works. In Fall 2025, Book-It will present David Wroblewski’s gripping novel The Story of Edgar Sawtelle at the Broadway Performance Hall on Capitol Hill. Read more about the production here.
