June 2 – June 26, 2005

by Kate Chopin
Adapted by Rebecca Chace | Directed by Jane Jones

Set in New Orleans at the end of the 19th century, The Awakening is a compelling story of a woman who undergoes a social, sexual and spiritual transformation. Condemned (and even banned) upon its publication in 1899, The Awakening was rediscovered in the late 1950s and is now considered an American literary classic. Book-It’s signature adaptation of this Kate Chopin gem is set to a score of blues, ragtime, soul, and opera and is rich with the lush decadence of the French Quarter.
